1. What project are you moving forward with right now?

I am planning on helping to preserve and support wetlands in the Bay Area. I am invested in this project because I spent a lot of time last summer kayaking around the wetlands in the San Francisco Bay and got to see a vast area of wildlife—among the birds, curlews, avocets; among the plants, pickleweed, cordgrass, and heath. Many of these species are threatened by the wetland’s vulnerability—90% of the Bay’s original wetlands have been drained, diked, or developed, and invasive species compete with native species, and bird populations have severely declined. I want to encourage restoration or advocacy opportunities for the wetlands through videos and flyers to inform my community about preservation, potentially partnering with the organization Save the Bay.

We have both reached out to organizations like Save the Bay.

4. What you hope to learn from your mentor?

I hope to gain experience regarding climate issues and to receive guidance towards solutions.
