We recognize that climate justice is inseparable from social justice and strive to build a movement that is explicitly intersectional, highlighting the ways that environmental issues are deeply intertwined with race, class, gender, and sexuality. Climate Care Kits
San Francisco’s history makes climate health disparities especially urgent. Decades of redlining and industrial zoning placed many low-income communities of color near freeways and high-pollution areas. Today, those same neighborhoods experience higher asthma rates, hotter temperatures during heatwaves due to uneven tree-canopy coverage, and limited access to fresh food. Climate change magnifies these long-standing health inequities, making community preparedness and education critical.
Distribution
The Climate Care Kit Project aims to equip communities affected by climate-induced health impacts through community workshops and the distribution of physical “care-kits.” These kits include the following: shelf-stable food, N95 masks, first aid kits, hand sanitizer, and laminated informational pamphlets detailing health and safety procedures for heatwave and air pollution safety. The kits were produced in partnership with UCSF, with generous funding from Salesforce.
